The dance education in Outokumpu is a three-year vocational programme leading to qualification in dance.
Education is based on contemporary dance techniques, mainly release techniques. The basic training includes as well improvisation, composition work, somatic practices and ballet.

In addition we have workshops for example in video making, dance history and anatomy. During the education there are several Finnish and international guest teachers visiting the program, as well as projects collaborating with musicians and light designers. Smaller and bigger productions give the chance to perform often, giving base for the practice of being a dancer.

The college is associated with its strong professional network of recognized artists who work with students as guest teachers or associates. This network provides possibilities to research new ways to bring dance into the environment and society, and find different ways for working with dance and arts. During the studies, we encourage students in growing towards their individual direction as dance makers and artists.

Professional tools
Our education prepares students for the professional dance field. On-the-job-learning projects, production courses and open meetings and discussions with professionals give a realistic picture of the dancer´s world. After graduation our students usually achieve a high record of employment in dance productions. The education gives as well a strong base for further studies in the fields of dance and performing arts.
