NORTH KARELIA MUNICIPAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING CONSORTIUM

is the organization, which main function is to provide qualified vocational education in the county of North Karelia. The mission of the North Karelia Municipal Education and Training Consortium is to develop vocational expertise for the benefit of North Karelia, taking both the working life and the individual into consideration.

We support student's learning also by common non-vocational education and support working life and the regional development by improving all branches of industries in North Karelia. Teaching and development work with the community's vitality and the possibilities of its inhabitants are arranged by the co-operation with our interest groups.

North Karelia Municipal Education and Training Consortium is owned by all 14 county's municipalities. There are 167 000 inhabitants in North Karelia. The Federation operates in 11 units

Our units contain 7750 students and a staff of 1050 including 650 teachers. The sites for educational establishments are in Joensuu, Kitee, Lieksa, Outokumpu, Nurmes, Valtimo and Pyhäselkä/Niittylahti.

The most important types of education are vocational education and training (upper secondary level), adult education, vocational further and supplementary education and training, labor policy education, apprenticeship training, common non-vocational education, and summer university teaching.

The consortium operates on eight fields of education, over 300 qualification titles, tailor-made education available on request and development of business and commerce are run through various projects.


North Karelia Municipal Education and Training Consortium has been awarded by the Ministry of Education 2004 and 2008: The Quality Award of vocational education and training.
In the National Skills Competition FinnSkills we have been among the top performers and educational providers 2006-2009



The Consortium is also partner and owner in some development organizations like Joensuu Science Park.

The annual budget is 73 million euros (operational costs) and annual invests being 7-8 million euros.
